Benjamin Heaton
Vice-Chair and Treasurer
Benjamin is studying Economics and Philosophy at Erasmus University Rotterdam. Previously, Ben began a degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Connecticut. According to Ben's perspective, the economic discipline has mimicked the natural sciences too closely-- it has abandoned its roots and lost its humility; however, if carefully salvaged, economics has much it can teach us. This is why Benjamin decided to join Rethinking Economics.

Navya Kala
Head of Events
Navya is studying Economics and Business Economics at Erasmus University Rotterdam. As someone who is passionate about environmental and developmental economics, Navya wanted to expand her thinking outside the material she learns in class and approach issues through a pluralist lens. She believes this is vital in order to create effective solutions to solving the climate crisis, and plans to achieve this by joining Rethinking Economics.

Sofia Stepayuk
Head of marketing
Sofia is studying Management of International Social Challenges at Erasmus University Rotterdam. Her main academic interests lie at the intersection of environmental sustainability, developmental economics, policy-making, welfare, and equality. Whatever it is, she prefers to look at concepts critically. This tendency to question everything has brought her to Rethinking Economics.

Climate Economics, Video Series
Millions of people around the world are going on the streets and demand action in response to the climate crisis (Friday’s for Future protests). Economics is a centre-piece to a rapid and coherent climate response, but the reality of the climate crisis is not given enough attention in economics education. A year ago, two of our Rethinkers gathered and brainstormed on how to respond to this lack of attention while also proving the need for more pluralism when addressing pressing complex economic phenomena. From this exciting night emerged our video series project on Climate Economics.
For you, we have created seven videos addressing the climate crisis from the perspective of different economic schools of thought. In each video, the respective school of thought is introduced and climate measures which are proposed by academics from the field are explained. Thereby, the wide variety of potential measures and how they can complement each other is made evident. Above all, we hope that these videos will inspire economics students but not exclusively, to get engaged with a wider range of economic theories. We also hope to see these videos used as educational tools in economic classes.
